The long going Apple and Samsung patent trial received another hearing and decision from the US federal jury. In its verdict, the jury found Samsung guilty of infringing on two of four Apple patents, the '647 patent for data detectors and the '721 patent for "slide-to-unlock". However, the jury said that Samsung did not infringe the '959 "universal search" patent or the '414 "background sync" patent. The jury ordered Samsung to pay $119.6 million in damages against $2 billion demanded by Apple in its latest verdict. The Galaxy S3, one of Samsung’s flagship products, accounted for the biggest portion, contributing $52 million worth of the damages. In a statement released to US media, Apple portrayed the verdict as a victory that “reinforces what courts around the world have already found: that Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products.” Meanwhile, the jury also found that Apple infringed Samsung’s ’449 patent and awarded the company to pay $158,400. Samsung in turn has argued that Apple should pay $6 million for infringing on its own patents for video features on smartphones.
