Mumbai’s Francesco’s Pizzeria delivers pizzas via drone

It's a bird, it's a place, it's not Superman but a drone. Francesco Pizzeria, a eatery joint in Mumbai tested drone for its food delivery. Drones had come into limelight last year, when Amazon announced that it is testing its Prime Air service for 30 minutes delivery. All of us had read about (global e-commerce giant) Amazon’s plans of using drones. We successfully carried out a test-delivery by sending a pizza to a customer located 1.5 km away from our outlet on May 11, Francesco’s Pizzeria chief executive Mikhel Rajani told PTI. The drone which of the size of a remote-controlled airplane delivered a pizza order from Lower Parel area and delivered it to a high-rise building in adjacent Worli. Rajani added that this was a test delivery on a four-rotor drone that was modified for this purpose with some help from a friend. Priced at $2000, the drone can only go 8 kilometres on full battery, reducing its range to 4 kilometres. The drone delivery saves time and reduces current bike delivery expense as its involves several other costs like fuel, labour and bike maintenance.
