I Spent a Week with the Republic Wireless WiFi Phone Network

I recently got a chance to spend a week using Republic Wireless, a cellphone carrier that offers a WiFi-only plan. So as more homes, hangout spots, and full cities get pervasive WiFi capabilities, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is hopping from hotspot to hotspot really a viable way to stay connected? Republic Wireless and other WiFi-first carriers want to move calls and data off of cell towers and onto WiFi hotspots and personal routers. When the phone starts up, Republic will make sure WiFi is enabled so that calls, texts, and data can be routed this way automatically.
