Windows/Android/iOS: To seamlessly switch gadgets, you need the files you were last working on to be available on the new device. Filelize makes this easy by automatically backing up any file you open to your Dropbox, Google Drive, Box or SkyDrive.
It's primarily Windows software, but it has apps on Android and iOS too. Once you choose your cloud service and sign in, Filelize creates a new folder in your cloud storage called "Recent Items." Any file you open on your PC, be it an image, a video, or a document, Filelize will detect that and place a copy in that Recent Items folder. Your original file is retained in its place. If you update the file and save it to your hard drive, Filelize will do that in the cloud.
The program also shows you "related items" to any file by detecting other items in the same folder on your hard drive, which you have recently opened. This is most useful when you switch devices. Even though the same folder structure isn't available on your new device, you still know all the files related to a project.
Before you think this is going to eat up the limited space on these awesome cloud storage services, don't worry. Filelize can be told not to sync audio, videos, images, or up to 20 different file extensions.
Filelize does have one problem, though: you need to choose your cloud service before you download the installer, and there is no way to change that later, or to have two cloud storage services running at the same time. This probably won't affect most people, but it's something to be aware of if you use multiple services. Try it out at the links below.
