'Lemon Meringue Pie' Could Be Android's Most Delicious Branding Yet

The most important part about any new Android version is what new features it brings to our smartphones—and to be sure—Android L is bringing plenty. But one thing we didn't know for sure is what delicious dessert would become its moniker. It looks like lemon meringue pie may be the winner.

Android Police glanced at the Android SDK, a Wi-Fi certification for an unannounced HTC tablet, and in Android's open source project and found substantial evidence that at least the internal name for the platform's new version is LMP. Here's a brief snippet from the SDK:

<!— From: file:/usr/local/google/buildbot/repo_clients/https___googleplex-android.googlesource.com_a_platform_manifest.git/lmp-preview-release/frameworks/support/v7/cardview/res/values/colors.xml —>

Also this Wi-Fi certification document seems pretty convincing:

Of course Google has set a precedent for changing its mind at the last minute. They internally named Android 4.4 KLP (key lime pie) until they announced that, in fact, the OS would get some commercial branding and was changed to KitKat. According to ExtremeTech, Google decided that not many people knew what key lime pie actually was or what it even tasted like, so after a brief meeting with Nestle at Mobile World Congress in 2013, it was decided.

For a while, many believe that Lollipop would be the new OS designation as the name must begin with an 'L' considering Android's alphabetical habits. Of course, that leaves a few other options—Laffy Taffy, Lemonheads, Life Savers, Licorice? If Google wants to change its mind a second time, at least they'll have options. [Android Police]
