Home Depot Reportedly Hacked By Same Group That Hacked Target

According to investigation by KrebsOnSecurity , Home Depot has been a victim of the same type of security threat that affected Target, with credit card numbers stolen and put up for sale online. Time to check your statements.

KrebsOnSecurity claims that an investigation into an alleged Home Depot security breach identified a variant of "Black POS", the same malware that affected Target point-of-sale systems. According to the site, credit card numbers stolen from Home Depot have already turned up for sale on black market sites.

Home Depot has not yet confirmed the hack, but they are investigating the matter and urge customers to closely monitor their credit card statements. We have no info on what was taken, but it's possible the breach could have occurred as early as April or May 2014.

In the meantime, if you've shopped at Home Depot recently, now would be a good time to take a look at your statement and be sure there's no unusual activity. If there is (or if you just want to be safe), call your financial institution and block or cancel your cards and order replacements. We'll update this post if and when we get more information.
