Move Your Hotel Reservation Before You Cancel to Avoid Fees

We recently covered how hotel's cancellation fee policies can help you get a room at a sold out hotel, but what about when you're the one trying to cancel the reservation? The Daily Beast recommends you simply call the hotel and ask them to move your reservation a few weeks ahead, then call back later to cancel.

Make sure you know what the cancellation cutoff is for your particular reservation so you don't do this unnecessarily. To avoid the wrath of the hotel staff, let some time lapse between your call to push the reservation forwards and your call to nix it.
