Protect Your ATM PIN or Lock Combo from Thieves with This Quick Trick

There's a new way for thieves to steal your ATM PIN code or find out which numbers you pressed on many keypads (like number door locks): All they need is an iPhone case that shows infrared. You can prevent it with a simple trick, though.

Mark Rober explains in the video above how this works. Basically, the FLIR iPhone case has an infrared camera that picks up thermal heat signatures. When you press the buttons on keypad, your fingers leave behind that thermal signature for the thieves to pick up with the camera.

What good is a PIN without the card number? Unfortunately, modern thieves can use scanners to steal credit cards' and debit cards' information via their RFID or NFC chips.

Rober offers an easy way to prevent your PIN or lock code from being stolen: Rest your fingers on the other buttons while you punch in the other numbers. (Thanks Amanda!)
