The Best Electric Toothbrush

The Best Electric Toothbrush

5000 votes and counting, and the Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 4000 has secured its place in your mouth. However, this race was painfully close to the gum line.

With only 8 votes separating second and third place at the time of this writing, we're going to go ahead and unpack what differentiates these nominees. Many commenters also suggested combining models from the same brands into single nominees, which we're not going to do. This is a competition between specific models, not brands.

Your winner, the Oral-B SmartSeries, brings with it a pressure sensor to prevent brushing too hard, along with the standard suite of modes and cleaning options. It also tends to hover around $95, which is half the price of some of the other contenders.

The Sonicare DiamondClean is the coolest brush on the list, sporting a USB charging case, a charging cup (how awesome is that?), and a black color scheme. However, while it retails for as much as $200, it doesn't include other premium features like a UV sanitizer.

The DiamondClean's main "premium" competition is really Sonicare's own FlexCare, which has a comparable MSRP. It gains a UV sanitizer, but loses the cool styling and charging options.

The other big point of differentiation is that Oral-B uses rotating heads while Sonicare utilizes sonic technology, which is a bit like the rotary vs. foil shaver debate.
