Three Ways to Get Free Lyft Rides in Your City

Three Ways to Get Free Lyft Rides in Your City

Ride sharing apps have gotten a lot cheaper, but you can find great deals if you know where to look. Lyft has free rides in every city, and we know three ways you can get yours.

The cars with the pink mustache give out lots of free rides if you know where to look. After discovering a bar that gave out free $25 coupons, I spoke to a Lyft representative to find out where some other lesser-known deals could be found. Here's what they said:

  • Referral Program: Lyft has a referral program that offers $25 to both the new and referring customer. All you have to do is sign up with your friend's referral code to get your first free ride. Upon sign-up you have your own referral code to hand out to other first-time Lyft riders. When they take their first ride using your code, you're awarded another $25.

  • Pioneer Program: The Pioneer program is how Lyft introduces itself to a new city. In Boston new riders are getting their first ten rides for free, while in New York new customers currently receive their first two rides for free (up to $25). The only way to know how many rides are available in your city is to sign up for the service and see if you're automatically credited the rides.

  • Venues: Keep a look out for Lyft cards like the ones above at your local venues. Lyft partners with venues in nearly 65 cities across the U.S. to have these cards available when you're out and about. We weren't told whether or not all of these coupons are for first-time riders or return customers, so keep your eyes peeled to see if you can get a special deal in your city.

You should always ask your Lyft driver what deals are available in town to see how else you can cut back on your travel expenses. If they like you, they'll probably hook you up.
