It's official. 25 years later, Twin Peaks is coming back to television. Creators David Lynch and Mark Frost hinted about it last week and now they just made it official: A new season is coming to Showtime in 2016. I wanted it to be Netflix or Amazon, but Lynch and Frost had to go Showtime for a good reason.
CBS owns the televised rights for Twin Peaks—and CBS owns Showtime. So it makes sense that showtime would get to air it because its parent company owns the rights to it. Although that sucks because I wanted to binge through it in one night.
Twin Peaks marked a before and after in TV history: For the first time someone used film production values to TV, with perfect script, direction, acting, and cinematography. Laura Palmer's murder took over the world and, over time, it became a masterpiece. Now, we may get lucky and get a new season.
