Apple Is Opening an Office in Seattle, a Town Full of Rivals

Apple is opening its first engineering office in the North West, and it's chosen Seattle—which just happens to be home to Microsoft and Amazon, too.

The Seattle Times reports—and and Apple spokesman confirms—that the company has recently opened an office which is working on network infrastructure. The report speculates that this "may be just what Apple needs to accelerate its cloud offerings and narrow the gap with leading cloud services, which were largely built in Seattle."

If accurate, that would be no bad thing; goodness knows Apple's cloud offerings haven't performed too well of recent time. It may, of course, also be a good way to tap into talent that may otherwise head to its rivals. [Seattle Times]
