Mozilla's New Website Takes VR to the Internet

Most websites sit in your browser in boring old 2D. But Mozilla has decided that it's time to change that, and the launch of MozVR.com brings virtual reality to the mainstream web.

The page is especially designed to allow Oculus Rift owners to browse technology demonstrations that attempt to showcase how a future web, where we all view the Internet through goggles, could look. So there are flyovers of British Columbia, 360-degree documentaries and more of that kind of thing.

Perhaps more importantly, though, Mozilla is sharing the code that makes it possible, which means others—including you—could build something along the same lines. It may be a while yet before we all sit at keyboards wearing VR headsets—but it's this kind of development that makes it a more realistic prospect. [MozVR.com]
