India's HDFC Bank becomes the first in the country to add support for Apple Watch

As smartphone penetration takes off in India, banks are offering services that allow customers to transact and check their account statements from mobile devices. HDFC Bank — one of the largest privately-held banks in the country — is now taking things a step further by announcing support for Apple Watch.

Apple Watch integration allows customers to check their account information including recent transactions, balance and more, locate the nearest ATMs or branches, request statements and chequebooks. There's the ability to check for offers, which checks a user's location and suggests any nearby deals at retail outlets. Customers can also recharge mobile numbers and their DTH (direct-to-home) connections directly from the watch.

When it comes to security, users a required to set a unique PIN to log into the client on the Watch. The bank mentions that one Apple Watch will be able to sync with a single iPhone at a time. The app itself is feature-rich and offers customers a convenient overview of their accounts and transactions. The major drawback at this stage has to be the availability of the Apple Watch itself, which is yet to make its debut in India.
